A virtual race, or virtual run, is a set distance you cover on your own route and schedule instead of on a course on race day. On X Challenge you pick a distance from 5 km to 179 km (3.1 to 111 miles) and cover it inside that challenge's time window, in one session or many, with no finish time to beat. The app records the distance, and a real medal ships when you finish.

Open the X Challenge app, choose your active challenge, and tap Start. The app uses your phone's GPS to log distance automatically outdoors. Treadmill and indoor bike sessions are recorded in the app's indoor mode.

No. The X Challenge app records your distance itself, with your phone's GPS outdoors and its indoor mode on a treadmill, so you do not need a Strava or Garmin account, and the app does not import from them.

Any activity the app records distance for: running, walking, hiking, treadmill, cycling, swimming, rowing and more. Mix them however you like.

After your registration is confirmed, we send an email with everything you need. If you already have an X Challenge account, the challenge unlocks automatically in the app — just open it and start. If you're new, the email contains a download link for the X Challenge app on the App Store. Sign up using the same email you used at checkout, and your challenge will be waiting. The Android app is still in development; your registration does not expire while you wait, because the countdown only starts when you tap Start.

Each challenge has its own fixed duration based on the distance — for example, Thor is 21km over 20 days, Loki is 5km over 7 days, and Kylin is 88km over 68 days. No. The medal is awarded only after you complete the full distance of the challenge in the X Challenge app. Once the app records your completion, we ship your medal within 5-10 business days (US).

Yes. Walking counts the same as running, so every challenge also works as a virtual walking challenge with a medal. A good place to start is Loki: 5 km (3.1 miles) over 7 days.

Yes. A virtual treadmill run counts the same as one outdoors. Record it in the app's indoor mode and it adds to your challenge total.

The challenge window starts when you tap Start in the X Challenge app. If you don't complete the full distance before the window ends, no medal is shipped. You can re-register for the same challenge later, or contact our support team at info@xchallenge.us to discuss your options.
